If your A/C unit doesn’t seem to be getting the job done, there are a few things you can check yourself before calling for service.

Unsurprisingly, one of the most frequent calls that we get for service at Airpliance is due to the air conditioner not cooling. Central Florida can get mighty uncomfortable without an adequately functional A/C unit, so we understand how frustrating this problem can be. Before you pick up the phone though, there are a few things that you can check yourself when the A/C doesn’t seem to be cooling properly.

Troubleshooting a Troublesome A/C Unit

While we at Airpliance are more than happy to come check your unit for you, before you call us you may want to check a few things yourself.

  • What is the thermostat set at? First of all, check what temperature your thermostat is set at! You’d be surprised how many times people change the setting without others in the household realizing it. Secondly, is the fan set to “on”? If so, it will run continuously whether or not the system is cooling. Always keep the fan set on “auto” so that it only runs when it’s needed.
  • When was the air filter last changed? A dirty air filter inhibits airflow through the system, resulting in reduced cooling capabilities. Take a look at your filter and if it looks dirty, then it’s time to replace it.
  • What’s the condition of the outdoor condenser? If dirt and debris are built up around the condenser outside, it can clog up the system so that it can’t cool properly. Give the unit plenty of room to breathe by clearing away any weeds, dirt, or other rubbish that may have accumulated around it.

These are not the only reasons that your A/C system may not be cooling sufficiently, so if you have checked these issues and they seem okay, then call Airpliance to get to the root of the problem.
